The History of TOPTOTS
TOPTOTS was started at the end of 1994, in response to a need felt for parents to be able to
meet other parents, and learn how to have quality interaction with
their children. Liesel Capper founded the original TOPTOTS Mother and Child programme which she lead for the first five years before
selling to Liz Victor and Pat Rhem, who reworked the programme extensively.
The new TOPTOTS programme has been well- researched and was developed by owner Liz Victor and her previous business partner Pat Rehm. Together they built TOPTOTS into the leading Early Childhood development programme that it is today.
Liz operates from Durban and holds a Higher Diploma in Education as well as a FED with remedial Education. Elizabeth also has a certificate in business administration. She is has done courses in infant message and is a BabyGym instructor . She taught for 9 years before opening a TOPTOTS in Westville, Durban.
Liz is constantly involved in research to upgrade and maintain the quality of the programmes that TOPTOTS has become famous for. At the same time, Liz operates a very successful franchise. This means that Liz has a hands on approach as to what the parents really need, what children like to do to learn and of course what activities make for the success of a class. It is her constant contact with parents, children and franchisees that makes the TOPTOTS programme so special. The Toptots programmes have been endorsed by paediatricians, psychologists and Occupational therapists, to mention a few of the professionals who have had access to the programmes.
Since the day it opened, the business has shown strong, continued growth. There are now 37 franchised TOPTOTS workshops across South Africa and one very strong franchise in Dubai.
